Class Descriptions

Vinyāsa Yoga

This type of yoga incorporates breath [pranayama] aligned movement with traditional yoga poses [asanas], including Sun Salutations [Surya Namaskar] spinal alignment and deep stretching.

Yin Yoga

A slow-paced, meditative style of yoga incorporating breath work (pranayama) and deep tissue stretching with poses (asanas) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles. In general this practice is good for temporary relief of stress and tension.

Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is a gentle practice in which postures are performed while seated and/or with the aid of a chair. As in a regular yoga practice, Chair yoga increases flexibility, strength and body awareness. This type of yoga typically targets those with physical disabilities, balance issues or senior men and women who find a typical yoga session too challenging. It can also be for beginners, or anyone who wants a gentle practice, or who has trouble getting up and down from the floor.

*Vipassana Meditation (see below for more info)

Vipassana, or insight meditation, is the practice of continued close attention to sensation, through which one ultimately sees the true nature of existence. It is believed to be the form of meditation practice taught by the Buddha himself, and although the specific form of the practice may vary, it is the basis of all traditions of Buddhist meditation. Buddhism and this type of meditation is not a religion, it is a state of mind.

Types of Classes

The descriptions below are intended to give you a general idea of the different levels of experience in my classes. All forms of yoga can increase flexibility, focus, mental clarity and relaxation. As always your choice is personal. Please choose wisely a level and class that is not overly challenging, frustrating, or potentially boring. If you are unsure about which class to choose, “Get in touch” with me through this web site.

Zero – Beginner Yoga

People in this class will have had zero, or very little experience with yoga, or have practiced yoga many, many years ago.

Some Experience – Yoga

This practice would be best for people who have had some Vinyāsa classes (dynamic movement creating internal heat and energy) maybe for some months, or have about a year practicing yoga.

Experienced – Yoga

People choosing these classes would have had more than a year, perhaps several years experience practicing yoga, particularly Vinyāsa.

Yin Yoga – Any Experience

This practice is slow-paced and meditative consisting of deep connective tissue stretching with the use of props, and focused breath work. It is ideal for those who would like to decompress, let the stresses and tensions of the day go, or who suffer from chronic pain. This class is considered restorative, and not a medical treatment.

Chair Yoga – Zero Experience

Anyone choosing this option will have never attended a chair yoga class, and might have some bodily restrictions, or is unable to get down and up from the floor. This is a good class for most people who have medical approval to practice after surgery or injury.

Chair Yoga – Some Experience

Students choosing this option will have attended some chair yoga classes within the past few years and are somewhat familiar with Chair Yoga practice. This is a good class for most people who have medical approval to practice after surgery or injury.

*Vipassana Meditation – Zero Experience

People in this class have had little or no experience with meditation of any kind, but are curious, openminded and lighthearted about experiencing Vipassana. This type of meditation is not religious.

*Vipassana Meditation – Some Experience

This class is for those who have practiced Vipassana, or other types of meditation, but who would like to experience and learn Vipassana. This type of meditation is not religious.

Essential Equipment & Practice Space

You will need a sticky mat, stretchy clothing and a water bottle. Two foam yoga blocks or a couple of hard cover books can be useful.

Most of my classes take place online, but if you are local, my studio has space for 1-2 practitioners. If you are practicing from home, have a clear, empty floor space about 6 feet (the average length of a yoga mat) by 5 feet, which allows for outstretched arms and legs.

Pricing

Although I consider my teachings as service to others, my work is also a business. Suggested pricing is $60 for 75 minute classes.

Money should not be the reason why someone can’t benefit from yoga. Whatever your financial situation, contact me.

I want to make yoga available to everyone, regardless of financial circumstances.
